Jessica Johnson: Respiration
July 1 - July 31, 2016 | 224 West 20th Street, New York, NY 10011
On View: Mondays - Sundays, 10AM - 6PM
“Respiration” is a two-part exhibition featuring an outdoor installation and drawings by multimedia artist and scientist Jessica Johnson. Cellular Respiration, the outdoor installation, attempts to create a “womb-like” structure of cells that will encompass the viewer and visually take them “into an internal, cellular space that will allow for reflection on the rhythmic, internal bodily processes that are automatic and essential to life, but are processes that we only think of momentarily, if at all.”
We will be hosting Special 1hr Creative Flow Gong Meditations beneath the canopy of art. Enjoy the natural process of healing through sound for your body and mind led by Nechama Karp.
The installation will be on exhibition only on July 25th, however Johnson’s drawings, Cellular Networks, will be on display through the entire month of July. These drawings reflect the abstract amalgamation of cells into larger wholes, and are reminiscent of petri dish cultures, microscope imaging and histological cross-sections.
